My name is Dariusz Matijczak and I’d like to give a warm welcome to my family, friends, acquaintances and everyone else visiting my website.
I have been accompanied by music since I was a child. I grew up in Lemko culture, an inseparable element of which was singing songs. My grandparents used to sing in the beautiful Carpathinan Mountains, where they lived and my parents continue singing in Western Poland. As a young boy I spent charming and touching moments listening to stories about “jak sia żyło w horach”(what life used to be like in the mountains).
To me, music is a synonym of beauty, faith and hope. It is a balm to my body and a prayer to my soul. Music is a means of expressing a wide array of emotions which accompany us daily. Therefore one can find a number of climates which relate to various emotional states – from euphoria to nostalgia.
The songs were created in various circumstances –sometimes an idea to write a tune came to me in the moment of loneliness and then recurred a few times over days. Some of my songs were written in the heat of the emotional moment. It is just amazing that thanks to
words and sounds I can express something more, stop the time, find a deeper sense in life and fill myself with true joy.
The first ideas to write the lyrics and music came to me in 2008 and probably, they would have been locked in a drawer until today. However, some of them, such as “Rik po Rik”, or “Syn Łemkowyny” became part of singing rituals during our family trips to the Carpathian Mountains, where we went to attend “Watras”
The need to record this CD came from my heart and soul, from my love of Lemko culture, orthodox church and family. The birth of my son, Maksym as well as recurrent conversations with my wife about the idea were a spur to me to make the dream come true. In 2011 I became more serious about it and began to consider recording my ideas. Thanks to my friends and guitarists, Ania and Arek, I was able to achieve my most important goal, which was finding an arranger and musicians who were willing to get engaged in my
project. It triggered a series of meetings with wonderful people including Bartez, the arranger and producer, Waldek, Zdziś and Kuba, the musicians and many others who helped me make my dream come true.
Now my wife and I would love to share the emotions and unforgettable moments which accompanied us while recording this album. They were uplifting moments of experiencing sounds and music which led us into a unique world of timelessness. The looks we exchanged as well as our love took on a new deeper meaning, and more importantly, the meaning which makes people come together and restores what has been forgotten to create a new dimension.
